Shannon Sharpe said a planned live broadcast of his "Nightcap" podcast from North Carolina A&T's 100th homecoming in Greensboro will not take place. The show had been announced October 26 for Thursday, October 29, at the university.
Sharpe said on the show that the university, not his production team or its sponsor, ended the plan. He said talks had run about 10 weeks before disagreements arose over fees tied to people and groups expected to take part. He alleged that fraternities and sororities were asked to pay, and that students faced possible discipline if they appeared on the show without authorization.
Sharpe also said the Blue and Gold Marching Machine, the university's marching band, first showed interest in appearing. His team was later told the band had a prior engagement, he said. He named a business college dean at the university as the official he holds responsible.
Sharpe, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and Savannah State University graduate, said his team had already booked lodging and made other arrangements for the trip that cannot be undone without cost. He said the show's visits to other HBCUs have not required fees for cheerleaders, coaches or faculty who join the broadcast.
