Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced Monday night. His company, Roc Nation, will executive produce the show, with Hamish Hamilton directing.
Roc Nation has partnered with the league since 2019 to advise on and help produce its entertainment presentations, including the halftime show. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league's one request when it first reached an agreement with Roc Nation was that Jay-Z take the stage himself "whenever the moment felt right to him." The decision to have him headline has drawn criticism online from people who say it is a conflict of interest.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has won 25 Grammy Awards. The announcement follows his run of concerts marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album "Reasonable Doubt," which included three sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium and a finale at SoFi Stadium over the weekend. Guests during the run included Beyoncé, Nas, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Alicia Keys.
"Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage," Jay-Z said in a statement. Last February, Bad Bunny's halftime performance won a record seven Emmys.
